I mean seriously, does anybody (without a financial interest in the thing) really care one whit about the stupid All-Star game?

Obsessives would. Shut-ins. All-stars. Prisoners probably, because they don't have much else to do. The bed-ridden. The families of the All Stars, and the jealous players who weren't chosen. Those people all care several whits. Each.
It's really just like a once-a-year hall of fame. Nothing else.

now the home run derby, that's something to watch - i never was interested in years past, but last night, I was really into it, solely because I wanted to see who could hit it into the water, and if anyone would drown going after a stupid baseball. add the element of water and danger, and ANYTHING is more exciting. They should make the all-star game be played in a blinding rain storm with lighting - that would be worth watching.
